Winner – Brockmans Gin

In July, UK-based Brockmans unveiled a new bottle for its namesake gin brand to much fanfare.

Produced by French firm Verallia, the pack contains 51% post-consumer recycled glass, comparing favourably to the existing bottle’s 0.6%.

More relevantly, in a sales channel where weight is (or should be) everything, Brockmans new bottle, which rolled out globally this month, is only 500g – a 23% weight reduction with no loss of premium cues. “Brockmans becomes the lightest bottle of its competitive set,” the company said, highlighting the heavier packs for its rivals’ brands in super-premium gin.  “The average competitor’s bottle weights 42% more than Brockmans.”

The B Corp-certified company’s MD, Jean-Dominique Andreu, added: “Our new bottle represents a significant step in our journey towards sustainability. We are proud to lead the industry with this innovative, lightweight packaging and we are committed to continuing our efforts to create a more sustainable future.”

Our judges said: “What they’ve done here is fantastic. This is a bold move to counter the consumer perception that heavy equals expensive.”

Special Commendation – Raincheck Earth

The use of rainwater in the dilution process for its Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin provided the evidence for judges to commend Raincheck Earth in this category of the ESG Awards. Further details can be found here.
