Carpathian Single Malt Whisky has rolled out to eight markets since launching a year ago and is set to launch in another 11 markets in the next six months.
Along with these distribution wins, Carpathian also celebrates the recent success of its range of Romanian single malt whiskies at the prestigious Beverage Testing Institute and Global Luxury Masters Awards 2023.
Carpathian Single Malt Whisky took a total of nine master, gold and silver medals across the competition, more than any other single malt, along with a further three gold medals at the Beverage Testing Institute 2023. All the Carpathian Single Malt Whisky expressions that received awards are non-chill filtered, single cask finishes bottled at 46% ABV, except for Carpathian Single Malt Whisky Peated Cask Strength which had an ABV of 63%.
Carpathian Single Malt Whisky was a double master medal winner at the Global Luxury Masters 2023. One of the two master medals was awarded to Romania’s first single malt peated whisky, Carpathian Peated Cask Strength, a revelation to the judges who described the tasting notes as “barbecue smoke on the nose, roasted peaches, good richness and spice”.

“Carpathian Single Malt Whisky is going from strength to strength,” said Master Distiller Allan Anderson. “The Peated Cask Strength expression will appeal to those entering the peated whisky category but also to existing fans of peated whisky. The malted barley is sourced from our partners in Belgium, then smoked with the best Scottish peat imparting a phenol content of 35ppm which leaves a nice smoky flavour whilst retaining the sweetness that a good whisky deserves. The fact that the judges were impressed by its qualities and decided to rank it at the very top of the competition is a great success for Carpathian Single Malt Whisky and the Alexandrion Group.”
With its “pleasant body, with fruitcake and Tawny fruit notes”, Carpathian Single Malt Whisky Vradiano Cask Finish was awarded the second master medal at the Global Luxury Masters 2023.
Gold Medals were awarded to the following Carpathian Single Malt Whiskies at the Global Luxury Spirits Masters 2023:
- Carpathian Single Malt Whisky Madeira Cask Finish
- Carpathian Single Malt Whisky Burgundy Cask Finish
- Carpathian Single Malt Whisky Ruby Port Cask Finish

Silver Medals were awarded to the following Carpathian Single Malt Whiskies at the Global Luxury Spirits Masters 2023:

- Carpathian Single Malt Whisky Amarone Cask Finish
Carpathian’s success continued at the Beverage Testing Institute Awards in the US with Carpathian Amarone Cask Finish, Madeira Cask Finish and Fetească Neagră Cask Finish all being awarded gold medals. All three expressions were awarded 93 points and received excellent feedback from the judges, who praised Carpathian Fetească Neagră Cask Finish for its notes of “fruit, chocolate and nuts on top of the sweet grain” that “make this an incredibly pleasing style of whisky”.
The judges also said that Carpathian Amarone Cask Finish “smells and tastes remarkably like a good Highland malt; very tasty and well executed”.
Carpathian Madeira Cask Finish rounded off the excellent reviews with its notes of “chocolate, roasted nuts and dried red fruits.” The judges also remarked that it is “just delightful and will complement a cigar quite well”.
Carpathian Single Malt is the first Romanian Single Malt Whisky ever produced, taking its name from the Carpathian Mountains that stretch across Central & Eastern Europe.
