Diageo has appointed Sebnem Erim as its next North America CMO, with the executive leaving AB InBev after nearly four years to join the Smirnoff brand owner.
Erim (below) started in post this week, replacing Ed Pilkington, who called time on his 35 years – with a two-year interruption 1994 to 1995 with L’Oreal – earlier this year. Pilkington, whose departure had been linked by speculation to Dave Lewis’ commencement as group CEO in January, had informed Diageo of his intention to leave prior to Lewis’ appointment.
Having signed off late last week from AB InBev, which she joined as senior VP of global innovation & growth in early 2023, Erim announced the start of her tenure with Diageo on LinkedIn on Wednesday (21 October).
“The opportunity to help shape the next chapter for some of the world’s most iconic brands, alongside such a talented team, is incredibly energising,” she wrote. “It brings together what I love most about marketing: understanding people, inspiring creativity, and building brands that connect with consumers and drive growth.
“Looking forward to bringing bold ideas to life and building on the remarkable legacy of these brands.”
Prior to her time with AB InBev, Erim spent nearly 12 years with PepsiCo (2011-2023), rising to the CMO role for the company’s global foods group. She also worked for SABMiller in London from 2005 to 2011 as marketing director for the ‘UK & Middle East’ division.
AB InBev acquired SABMiller in 2016 for US$107bn.
