‘My advice would be to take a comprehensive view of the company’s activities, identify where you can have the greatest impact, and act on clear priorities within a long-term plan.’

Which recent ESG initiative or improvement are you most proud of?

Alongside our long-standing environmental commitment in agriculture – with our estate vineyards certified organic and ‘Biodiversity Friend’ – we have recently been focusing on our carbon footprint, reducing it faster than planned by using only renewable energy, improving efficiency and lowering emissions.

We’ve also offset remaining Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions through certified carbon credits.

What do you believe is the biggest ESG challenge facing the drinks industry today?

One of the biggest is finding a balanced, responsible approach to alcohol and sugar. Abuse and excessive consumption must be clearly discouraged, given their health impacts. Yet we should also recognise the value of moderation when linked to pleasure, conviviality and wellbeing.

This is especially true for wine as an expression of culture, terroir and tradition.

Camilla Lunelli

What advice would you give to companies looking to strengthen their ESG performance?

My advice would be to take a comprehensive view of the company’s activities, identify where you can have the greatest impact, and act on clear priorities within a long-term plan.

Sustainability shouldn’t remain a separate activity, but should become a key criterion in decision-making, starting from the top.

Ferrari Trento won ‘Sustainable Wine Producer’ at the Global Drinks Intel ESG Awards in 2023. How has winning an ESG award influenced your approach?

It was both an honour and an incentive to continue with even greater commitment. It reinforced our responsibility towards our employees, our territory and all our stakeholders, and encouraged us to embed sustainability even more deeply in the way we think and act.

The deadline for entry to the Global Drinks Intel ESG Awards 2027 is this Friday, 23 October. Head here for full details
