Not-for-profit The International Alliance for Responsible Drinking has recruited from outside the alcohol industry to fill the newly created role of chief communications officer.
The brand owner-funded organisation announced today (10 September) that Annie Brown (below) has joined from Herbalife Nutrition, where she has spent the last five years as director of communications for the company’s Africa & Europe region. Her career to-date also included six and a half years at British American Tobacco in various communications capacities.
Brown will report in to CEO Julian Braithwaite, who joined London-headquartered IARD in early 2024.
“IARD and its member companies … have already made huge headway in promoting responsible drinking … but there are plenty of opportunities to do more,” Brown said. “I believe this role … has the ability to make real impact in tackling the harmful use of alcohol and raising awareness of moderation and low- & no-alcohol alternatives for adults seeking greater choice.”
Almost exactly a year ago, the United Nations updated its ‘political declaration on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases’, described by Braithwaite at the time as “an important moment in global health”.
