Paramount Retail Group has hired Dominic Metcalfe to head up its recently formed UK beer subsidiary, Great British Drinks Co.

Metcalfe (below), who began his position as the unit’s first MD today (6 July), joins Paramount after two-and-a-half years at UK peer Buxton Brewery, which is owned by Happy Place Investors. He has spent around 21 years in the UK brewing industry in total, including just over four years as sales & marketing director of independent brewery Thornbridge, four years as sales director at Black Isle Brewing Co, a year at Timothy Taylor’s and eight and a half years at Adnams.

Great British Drinks Co was founded earlier this year following Paramount’s acquisition of Keystone Brewing Group. At the time, Paramount said Saltaire Brewery – which the former acquired in August 2024 – had purchased Keystone’s Black Sheep, Fourpure and Purity (main image) brands. These assets, Paramount explained, would become “part of Saltaire’s expanding brewing platform”.

Global Drinks Intel has contacted the brewer to learn where Saltaire sits in the growing company’s structure.

As well as housing the ex-Keystone brewery assets, Great British Drinks Co produces and distributes the Laine Brew Co and Megadeth beer marks.

In other UK beer news, Tilray Brands announced its intention last month to use recently acquired BrewDog’s UK bars to facilitate the launch of nine US beers in the country. Brews from 10 Barrel Brewing Co, Alpine Beer Co, Blue Point Brewing Co, Green Flash Brewing Co, Montauk Brewing Co, Runner’s High Brewing Co, Shock Top, Sweetwater Brewing Co and Terrapin Beer Co have been rolled out to the BrewDog outlets.
