While many established whisky markets continue to face pressure, South-East Asia is increasingly emerging as one of the most dynamic growth regions for premium Irish whiskey.
For Kinahan’s Irish Whiskey, that momentum is already beginning to translate into tangible market traction.
Over the past 12 months, the brand has evolved from a duty-free presence at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (below) into a broader domestic market rollout in Malaysia, supported by a series of targeted hospitality and on-trade activations designed to build long-term brand credibility within the market.
Most recently, Kinahan’s owner, Origen X, hosted a private rooftop masterclass at the five-star Imperial Lexis Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together bartenders, hospitality figures and whiskey enthusiasts for an introduction to Kinahan’s ‘Hybrid Cask’ range.
Led by Origen X CEO Zak Oganian, the tasting focused on the brand’s Hybrid Cask innovation, which combines five woods – Portuguese, American, French and Hungarian oak alongside chestnut – as well as the broader evolution of premium Irish whiskey internationally.
Rather than pursuing a large-scale launch format, the activation focused on smaller, more targeted engagement within premium hospitality circles, combining guided tastings with curated cocktail serves.
The activity reflects a broader shift currently taking place across South-East Asia’s premium spirits landscape, where consumers are increasingly seeking provenance, authenticity and experience-led engagement over traditional mass-market visibility.
Discussions have also commenced with one of Malaysia’s largest retail groups as Kinahan’s continues to expand its footprint within the region.
