Rémy Cointreau has unveiled a limited-edition expression from its Bruichladdich single malt brand featuring an old-fashioned label, to celebrate 25 years since the distillery reopened.

The iteration, called Old Skool, is a ten-year-old single-malt scotch whisky distilled using Islay-grown barley. The 50%-ABV whisky carries an SRP of GBP60 (US$80.15) and is available via the Bruichladdich website and “selected whisky retailers” from today.

Old Skool is the first of three limited-edition anniversary bottlings set to be released this year to celebrate the anniversary of Bruichladdich’s 2001 ‘resurrection’ – built in 1881, the Islay-based distillery closed in 1995 before reopening in 2001 and being acquired by Rémy Cointreau 11 years later for GBP58m (then-US$90.6m).

The limited release – the available quantities of which were not disclosed – is contained in a commemorative bottle inspired by “retro Bruichladdich labels of the 1980s”.

The Rémy Martin brand owner is also marking Bruichladdich’s anniversary throughout the year with a “programme of events and special limited-edition releases, paying tribute to the people, products and place behind the distillery’s revival”.

“Bruichladdich Old Skool is a celebration of our revival and everything we’ve stood for over the last 25 years,” said Bruichladdich’s global marketing director, Gareth Brown. “When the distillery was brought back to life in 2001, it wasn’t just about reopening the doors – it was about reimagining what scotch whisky could be, with flavour, transparency and Islay firmly at the heart.”

Having booked an 11% decline in sales in its fiscal Q2, Rémy Cointreau’s said in January that sales in the three months to the end of December (its Q3) were up by 2.8%. Added to the near-6% jump in Q1, and year-to-date sales recovered to -1.9% on the corresponding nine months of fiscal 2025.

‘It’s not going to solve all our issues, but it’s a landmark deal’ – Scotch Whisky Association chief executive Mark Kent speaks to Global Drinks Intel
