Winner – La Rioja Alta’s Viña Alberdi
Viña Alberdi by Grupo La Rioja Alta exemplified ESG excellence, with every packaging element – bottle, cork, label, capsule – redesigned for sustainability.
The 100% recycled tin capsule is paired with on-site recovery; bottles are lightweighted (reduced from 540g to 440g) and sourced locally to cut emissions. Natural cork supports biodiversity and CO₂ capture, while FSC-certified labels use minimal water-based inks.
This year has seen all secondary packaging shift to 100% recycled paperboard. Beyond packaging, 30% of the group’s vineyards use cover crops, artisanal plots (below) are hand-tended and new high-altitude plantings have been adapted to account for climate change.
Energy systems include solar, biomass and heat recovery. Certified under ‘Wineries for Climate Protection’, La Rioja Alta leads with regenerative viticulture, circular materials and low-impact design – delivering environmental and social value across its production chain.
Our judges said: “This initiative captures every element of sustainable packaging (bottles, cork, labels & Crealis capsules) and a lot of sustainable initiatives around the liquid content”.
