Molson Coors Beverage Co has brought the five-month search for its next CEO to a conclusion, with chief strategy officer Rahul Goyal set to take the reins.

Following on from incumbent Gavin Hattersley’s announcement in April that he would retire at the end of 2025, Molson Coors has today (22 September) announced Goyal’s promotion. Goyal (below), who has been with Molson Coors since 2001, will start in his new role at the start of next month.

Rahul Goyal

After spending five-and-a-half years with Coors Brewing Co in Colorado as a group manager, Goyal started his journey – both internally and geographically – in mid-2006, when he joined Molson Coors UK and rose to chief information officer. Four years in Mumbai followed (2011-15), as CFO for Molson Coors Cobra India, before Goyal headed to the US and corporate headquarters.

Four years as chief corporate strategy, M&A & venturing officer preceded his appointment as chief strategy officer towards the end of 2019.

“After conducting an extensive and thorough CEO succession process that included evaluating internal and external candidates, it was clear that Rahul brought the right experience and vision that we believe is needed to drive the next phase of growth for Molson Coors,” said MCBC’s chair, David Coors. “Rahul has strong institutional knowledge, given his time with the company, and more importantly, he is eager to bring new thinking with a focus on future growth.”

Once he has stepped aside next month, Hattersley will stay with the group in an advisory role until the end of the year.

Goyal will take the wheel at a challenging time for the multi-category group, which has reported sales declines in its last five quarters. Results for the three months to the end of September are scheduled to be announced on or around 7 November.
