US trade association the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America has named Cutter Smith as its next chair.

Smith (below) succeeds Dina Opici, the president of Opici Family Distributing, who has completed her term. The incoming chair, who leads family-owned Connecticut-based wholesaler Eder Bros, said his “role is not only to weather the storm but to chart a course through it”.

Eder Bros handles brands including Pernod Ricard’s Jameson Irish whiskey, Diageo’s Tanqueray gin and Bacardi’s namesake rum.

The organisation’s CEO, Francis Creighton, thanked Opici for her leadership during her tenure. “Dina has been a tireless advocate for distributors, championing their role in communities across the country while helping to guide WSWA through key challenges like tariffs and regulatory changes,” he said.

“I am excited to work alongside Cutter as he takes on this role, bringing his experience, vision and commitment to advancing the interests of our members and strengthening the industry.”

Last month, WSWA released data showing that wine and spirits continued to exhibit their downward tendencies in the US in the first half of 2025.
