Almave, the non-alcoholic agave spirits company co-founded by Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, has introduced Almave Humo, a zero-proof mezcal alternative.

Produced using espadin agave harvested at the base of the Popocatépetl volcano in Puebla, Mexico, Almave Humo uses traditional mezcal-making methods, including pit-roasting agave piñas with fire and volcanic stones. The iteration was launched online on 8 August, priced at US$36.99 per 70cl.

The release marks Almave’s expansion beyond its existing core range of Almave Ámbar and Almave Blanco. According to the other co-founder, Casa Lumbre Spirits’ master distiller Iván Saldaña, the innovation caters to agave spirit consumers seeking smoky, complex profiles without alcohol.

Almost exactly 12 months ago, Pernod Ricard acquired an unspecified stake in Almave , without disclosing financial details.
