Viva Wine Group has entered into an agreement to acquire Dutch wine distribution business Delta Wines.

Sweden-based Viva Wine is set to pay EUR57m (US$64.6m) for 89% of the shares in the company from private-equity firm Navitas Capital. The group said the deal – which is expected to complete this month –  “significantly strengthens its position in the European wine market”.

Delta is a wine distributor headquartered in the Netherlands that also operates in Poland, Belgium, Finland, Norway and Czechia. In 2024, Delta Wines reported sales of around EUR186m (US$208.2m). Viva Wine, meanwhile,  markets and sells both wholly-owned and partner brands to consumers in markets including Austria, France, Germany, the Nordic countries, and Switzerland.

The combined group will have operations in eight countries, sell in 16 European markets and achieve total annual sales in the region of SEK6bn ($624m).

“This acquisition represents a strategically important step in terms of our ambition to establish Viva Wine Group as one of Europe’s leading wine distributors,” said CEO Emil Sallnäs. “It strengthens our position in the European market and provides significant value-creation opportunities through both commercial and operational synergies, particularly within our Nordic B2B operations.

“Together with our producers and partners, we are building on a strong growth journey – aiming to lead development and create long-term value.”

In other recent wine M&A moves, Pernod Ricard completed the sale of virtually all of its wine operations to the owner of Accolade Wines last month, leading to the creation of global wine group Vinarchy.
