The number of attendees at this month’s ProWein trade show fell back by 10.6% on last year’s event, according to figures released by the exhibition’s organiser.
The data, shared by Messe Düsseldorf on the last day of ProWein 2025 on Tuesday (18 March), shows 42,000 visitors recorded at the three-day industry stalwart. The figure represented a double-digit decrease on last year’s show, although above the 38,000 level in 2022, the exhibition’s first post-pandemic iteration.
Despite the decline, Messe Düsseldorf highlighted a 94% “successful” rating from the “decision-makers and buyers with purchasing power” among the attendees.
On the geographical side, the organiser also flagged a dip in the number of countries represented by attendees, from 135 last year to 128. Almost half of “the top buyers from food retail, specialist and online retail and the restaurant/catering trade” were from the domestic market, with some visitors travelling from as far afield as China, Japan, South Korea and the US.
“In difficult sales times, ProWein shows it is the industry’s go-to trade fair where producers can successfully plan their business year,” said Messe Düsseldorf’s COO, Marius Berlemann. “ProWein’s long-standing international profile and expertise is impressive proof of this and underpins its outstanding position in the highly competitive global trade fair market.
“We are very proud to have been on the market for over 30 years and to have developed such a unique networking and sales event.”
The battle between ProWein and Wine Paris for profile in the alcohol industry has tilted in the latter’s favour, quantitively; Wine Paris attracted 52,622 to its 2025 iteration in January but was behind its competitor last year by just under 6,000.
ProWine Tokyo heads to the Japanese capital next month, with satelite events following later this year in Hong Kong (14-16 May), Sao Paulo (30 September-2 October), Mumbai (31 October-1 November) and Shanghai (12-14 November). ProWein 2026 returns to Düsseldorf from 15 to 17 March next year.
