Diageo is set to spend US$415m on the construction of a manufacturing and warehousing facility in the US.

The Guinness and Johnnie Walker owner revealed plans to build the site in Montgomery, Alabama, creating around 100 full-time jobs. The 360,000-square-foot facility will have a “multi-million case annual production capacity” across Diageo’s portfolio.

The building, which will be referred to as ‘Diageo Montgomery,’ is expected to be fully operational in the second half of this year.

“The new facility will not only bring our business closer to our customers and distributors in the south, but also enable our broader supply network to operate more efficiently and sustainably,” said Diageo’s president of North America supply, Marsha McIntosh. “This investment underscores our commitment to building greater resiliency into our supply chain across North America.”

The London-listed company has been busy this month: it closed the distillery for its Chase brand in the UK, it offloaded its Cacique rum brand to La Martiniquaise-Bardinet last week and announced the sale of its Guinnes Ghana stake earlier this week.

Most notably, Diageo has been surrounded by rumours over its Guinness business and Moët Hennessy stake, which prompted it to make the unusual move of commenting on “media speculation”.

The group is set to release results for its fiscal half-year (to the end of December) on 4 February.
