The company, which owns eight brands providing closure solutions to beer, spirits and wine producers, recognises that decarbonising businesses is a global priority. Since commencing the measurement of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in 2022, Crealis has set near-term corporate reduction targets based on the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
The data capture conducted two years ago showed total carbon emissions of 136.7kt CO2e, with the majority – 123.5kt – sitting within Scope 3. Crealis has committed to reduce its absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 from the 2022 base, and is also targeting the reduction of Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 25% within the same timeframe.
“We firmly believe that sustainability is the only way forward,” said CEO Michele Moglia. “As a testament to the group’s determination to reduce our environmental impact, we have committed to establishing near-term SBTi targets. As leaders in the closure solutions market, we believe that sustainability is more than just a value or goal: it’s a journey that we share with our customers, collaborating to reduce carbon footprint, preserve resources, and promote social responsibility.”
Among the measures being introduced are the cutting down on waste generated in the production process and the exploration of more sustainable alternative materials. The company is also committed to preferring, where possible, recycled materials as well as working in collaboration with low-impact suppliers to reduce overall emissions across the entire value chain.
Crealis will also explore the use of alternative fuels such as biomethane and hydrogen, accelerate the electrification of its operations through the installation of heat pumps and increase its use of renewable energy.
