Dave Burwick, who stepped down as CEO of the Samuel Adams and Truly hard seltzer brand owner after six years last month, was confirmed this week as having joined Duckhorn. As well as sitting on the board of directors, Burwick will chair the California-based company’s nominating & corporate governance committee.
Prior to his time with Boston Beer, Burwick’s career also included 20 years with PepsiCo, the last 14 months of which were as CMO of PepsiCo Americas beverages in 2008-9.
The news follows Duckhorn’s appointment three weeks ago of Diageo’s former CFO and North America president, Deirdre Mahlan, as its CEO.
“Dave is an accomplished beverage executive with operational and strategic expertise that brings incremental value and perspective to [the] board,” said Mahlan.
Duckhorn hit the headlines in November when it lined up the acquisition of Brown-Forman’s Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards business. The transaction resulted in the Jack Daniel’s brand owner taking a 21.5% holding in the group.
