Momoa, whose career started with Baywatch before moving to Game of Thrones and has taken in two appearances as super-hero Aquaman, has directed a long-form advert for the beer. The spot debuts online via Guinness and Momoa’s social media channels before switching to TV next week.
“This is more than just another partnership,” said the US brand director for Guinness at Diageo North America, Joyce He. “Together with Jason, we are starting a new chapter in our iconic story that will bring Guinness to more people, places and celebrations.”
Momoa is no stranger to the beverage alcohol industry: Just over a year ago, he launched Meili Vodka, a brand produced in Montana and co-founded by Momoa with clothing entrepreneur Blaine Halvorson. Meili carries a retail price in the US of around US$25 per bottle.
Rumours emerged once again late last year that Diageo was investigating a divestment of the majority of its brewing business. While the group declined to comment on the speculation contained in a report by online news provider Axios, Global Drinks Intel understood at the time that no such transaction was pending.
