The US arm of Anheuser-Busch InBev has released details of a US$22.5m investment in its brewery in Houston, Texas.

Anheuser-Busch will apply the funds to upgrading the facility’s cooling system, which according to the unit, will “enhance workplace safety and improve brewing efficiency”. The move is designed to reduce electricity usage and should be completed by the end of this year.

“The upgrade to our cooling system will enable us to stay at the forefront of brewery safety and efficiency standards,” said Houston brewery GM Ryan Hudgins. “By transitioning to this new system, we not only have a positive impact on employees, but also conserve resources for the local Houston community.”

A year ago, Anheuser-Busch installed a water reuse plant at the brewery that it said at the time would cut the facility’s reliance on new water from the municipal supply by 10%.

A-B InBev has been in a consolidatory move in the US recently, selling the Appalachian Mountain Brewery business in North Carolina back to its original owners in May and divesting eight other assets, predominantly in craft beer, to Tilray Brands earlier this month.
