Beam Suntory has centred the latest packaging update for single malt brand Laphroaig around its group-wide sustainability strategy.
The revision features a replacement of the bottle’s plastic bar top with a beech wood alternative and a “more recycling-friendly” carton. Applied across Laphroaig’s portfolio, the move coincides with a change of name for the ‘Select’ extension to ‘Oak Select’.
According to Beam Suntory, the pack refresh will lower Laphroaig’s total carbon emissions by 30%. or 1,185 tons of greenhouse gases per year.
“This new packaging is a good step forward in our global sustainability ambitions, while still maintaining Laphroaig’s … character and … quality,” said company VP for global Scotch & Irish brands, Chris Richardson.
Spirit produced at the Laphroaig distillery on the island of Islay features in Ardray, Beam Suntory’s new blended Scotch brand that was unveiled earlier this year.
