US sparkling wine operation Rack & Riddle has expanded further with the acquisition of Lodi-based Weibel Family Winery for an undisclosed sum.
Rack & Riddle – which recently added a sparkling wine production site in Geyserville – now claims to be the largest premium, custom sparkling wine producer in the US.
Following the acquisition of the family-owned business from Fred Weibel, Weibel Family Winery will be known as Rack & Riddle Lodi.
The deal covers all intellectual property and company assets, with “the majority” of Weibel employees joining the Rack & Riddle payroll.
Hailing the purchase as a “milestone”, Rack & Riddle co-CEOs Rebecca Faust and Bruce Lundquist said in a joint statement: “The trajectory of our business has clearly mirrored the growing demand in the United States for quality sparkling wine at all price points and methods.
“We look forward to bringing our collective sparkling experience to Lodi to enhance founder Fred Weibel’s legacy.”
Rack & Riddle now has 150 employees and production capacity of 3.5m cases across four sparkling winery locations in California: Healdsburg, Alexander Valley, Geyserville and Lodi.
