- Second quarter revenues rise 14.2% to EUR52.3m [US$57.6m], in line with Q1
- France posts double-digit sales hike as supply disruptions ease
- Positive trends in Europe offset negative performance in UK
Marie Brizard Wine & Spirits matched its first quarter performance in the three months to 30 June, thanks to a strong performance from the company’s international business and renewed growth in the French market.
France recorded a double-digit revenue rise, moving up 12.6% in a good recovery from its decline in the first quarter, with Marie Brizard highlighting fewer supply disruptions, lower out-of-stock rates and price increases.
William Peel blended Scotch, San José Tequila and Berger pastis were standouts for their performances in the off-premise, the company noted, although the on-premise slowed after a solid first quarter.
Marie Brizard’s export highlights included strong growth in Lithuania, Bulgaria and Spain – where William Peel and Marie Brizard were singled out for their sales increases – offsetting the company’s “difficulties” in the UK, where revenues continued to decline.
There was a “temporary” recovery in the US in the second quarter, but Marie Brizard warned of the “persistently challenging distribution landscape” for Sobieski vodka and Gautier Cognac.
Asia Pacific declined amid weak trading in Australia and South Korea, but strong growth in Taiwan.
The company also cautioned that the surge in input costs experienced since 2022 had only partly been offset by price rises in the first quarter across almost all markets, especially internationally.
