Constellation Brands has followed last month’s divestment of a craft brewer with the acquisition of a Californian wine brand.
Domaine Curry, described by the group as a “luxury Napa Valley wine brand” joined the portfolio last week. At the end of May, Constellation returned Florida’s Funky Buddha Brewery to its founders after six years of ownership.
The brand, which has been purchased for an undisclosed sum from Coup De Foudre [also in Napa Valley], will join Constellation’s The Prisoner Wine Co unit.
“The acquisition of Domaine Curry, a female- and Black-founded wine brand, … provides an opportunity for us to partner with (co-founders) Ayesha (Curry) and Sydel (Curry-Lee) to build a uniquely positioned luxury wine and culturally relevant lifestyle brand,” said Prisoner Wine Co GM Bukky Ekundayo. “Bringing them into The Prisoner Wine Co portfolio builds on our history of expanding the luxury wine landscape with inclusive and progressive brands, wines and values.”
Constellation will report its results from the three months to the end of May at the end of this week. For the financial full-year 2023 – to the end of February – group sales came in up 7% on the corresponding period a year earlier.
