Berry Bros & Rudd has confirmed its purchase of an unspecified minority holding in UK-based single malt whisky business The Cotswolds Distillery.
The transaction, the financial details of which were also not disclosed, will see the wine & spirits merchant and brand owner reunite with the distiller’s CEO, Jeremy Parsons. Prior to joining Cotswolds last year, Parsons oversaw Berry Bros’ spirits stable for ten years, to June 2016.
The funds generated from the stake divestment will be used to grow production capacity as well as to “boost its sustainability plans, including the building of a bio-diverse wetlands ecological treatment system and related landscaping works”, said Cotswolds.
“Their impressive growth has seen them become the best-selling English whisky and a leading light in the fast-growing premium single malt category,” said Berry Bros’ CEO, Emma Fox, who will assume a seat on Cotswolds’ board. “We look forward to supporting and accelerating their international expansion and helping them maximise the growing global opportunity in New World Whisky.”
