UK-based fermented tea specialist The Real Drinks Co is targetting rosé wine consumers with its latest “alcohol-free alternative”, Peony Blush.

Produced using white peony tea leaves, the sparkling addition to the company’s portfolio will be packaged like wine, including the use of a cork & cage closure. Peony Blush will be available in the UK from the end of next month from “speciality” off-premise outlets and online through Ocado, for GBP9 [US$11] per 75cl bottle.

“With sales of alcohol-free wine booming, this is an exciting opportunity for The Reak Drinks Co to provide a genuine alcohol-free alternative to sparkling rosé at a key seasonal time,” said company co-founder David Begg. “Whilst many alcohol-free wines and sparkling wines remove alcohol, [we] naturally ferment tea leaves to produce the same authenticity, provenance and complexity that are found in wine.”

Earlier this year, Canadian authorities updated the country’s guidance for alcohol consumption, warning that the most recent evidence “shows that modest consumption of alcohol offers no protective effects against heart diseases”.
