- Final quarter of 2022 sees sales increase 10.2% to US$14.67bn
- Full-year finishes up 11.2% at $57.79bn
Anheuser-Busch InBev has closed out 2022 with another double-digit lift in quarterly sales, resulting in a full-year rise of just over 11%.
For the three months to the end of December, the brewing giant posted a 10.2% increase in year-on-year sales, building on the +11.5% from the first nine months, reported in October. CEO Michel Doukeris was quick to highlight AB InBev’s “all-time high full-year volumes” in yesterday’s announcement, although Q4 dipped slightly, by 0.6%.
Of its three highest-profile brands, the group said Corona was the star performer last year with a jump in sales outside of its home market of Mexico of 18.6%. Stella Artois outside of Belgium grew 11.7% as Budweiser's non-US sales increased 2.5%.
On a regional basis, a combination of price rises and a "soft industry" hampered performance in the US, resulting in the 'North America' reporting region inching up by 2.4% for the full year. This came despite an almost-20% jump in Mexico. The 2.4% growth rate was also recorded in 'Asia Pacific' in 2022, due in part to continued Covid-related restrictions in China that slowed AB InBev's premiumisation successes in recent years.
The regional plaudits went to 'Middle Americas' [+15.1% in 2022] and 'South America' [+27.9%] with EMEA coming in similarly strongly, rising 13.1% thanks predominantly to Europe's double-digit increase as a result of ongoing premiumisation in the continent.
