Trade show organiser Messe Düsseldorf has released the visitor numbers for last week’s ProWein exhibition, showing a near-30% jump on 2022 but still down on its pre-pandemic highs.

The event, which concluded on Tuesday and had to weather public transport strikes in the city for two of its three days, brought in 49,000 attendees, according to the company. While being up on the 38,000 total last year, the record set in 2019, when 61,500 visited the show, still stands.

The numbers compare favourably with the rival Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris exhibition, which drew 36,334 visitors last month. The France-based event recorded a 41% leap in attendees compared to the year prior.

In Düsseldorf, the number of countries represented by visitors to last week's event dipped slightly year-on-year, to 141. However, according to Messe, "the Asian region was again more strongly represented".

Next year's event is scheduled for Sunday 10 to Tuesday 12 March.
