Edrington has released details of a recent ESG [Environment, Social & Governance] activation fronted by its flagship brand, The Macallan single malt.
The bulk of the proceeds from last year’s auction of an 81-year-old expression of the Scotch whisky – the distillery’s oldest – has been used to create the ‘Artisan Apprenticeship Fund’. The brand owner confirmed today that GBP260,000 [US$313,280] from the sale will be split between four companies in the UK – three of which are in Scotland – to “enable the recruitment and training of new apprentices”.
The four selected companies are apparel producer Alexander Manufacturing, Glasstorm, which produces hand-made works in glass, “fine art foundry” Powderhall Bronze and London-based Shepherds Bookbinders.
The Macallan’s The Reach 81 Years Old was sold at Sotheby’s in London for GBP300,000 in October.
Two years ago, the brand created ‘The Macallan Artisan Collective’ an in-person and online forum designed to share best-practice and encourage collaborative projects for start-up companies.
