Asahi is lining up the European launch of two high-end single malts from its Nikka Japanese whisky brand.
The pair form part of Nikka’s ‘Discovery Series’ of limited-edition bottlings and comprise Yoichi and Miyagiko Aromatic Yeast. A total of 4,800 units hit Europe’s off-premise channel next month through specialist spirits retailers.
In the UK, both expressions, which are named after Nikka’s two distilleries in Japan, will have an SRP of GBP245 [US$298] per 70cl unit.
Japan’s whisky industry has earned praise recently for having “really opened the floodgates” for single malt production around the world. “The idea of single malt being made outside Scotland is growing more common by the day,” said Matt Hofmann, co-founder & MD of Washington state-based Westland Distillery, which is owned by Rémy Cointreau. “We have to thank Japan for this, first and foremost.”
