Pernod Ricard has lined up a further investment at the home of its Irish whiskey operations, this time pegging EUR250m (US$247m) on a bolt-on distillery.
The spend, which follows June’s announcement of a EUR50m environmentally-targeted boost, will add a new production facility to the group’s Midleton Distillery complex near Cork. Once in service, which is expected to be in 2025, the new distillery will contribute whiskey to brands including Jameson, Powers and Redbreast.
A spokesperson for Pernod’s Irish Distillers division was not able to provide production capacity figures for the add-on when contacted by Global Drinks Intel today. The group noted, however, that Midleton’s “requirement for barley and malted barley” will increase by “up to 50%”.
Less than three months ago, Irish Distillers confirmed the commencement of a funding programme to improve the efficiency of on-site energy generation at Midleton. At the time, a spokesperson said the site has an annual production capacity of around 70m litres of pure alcohol.
